THE GENIUS OF ROGER LAW – FROM SUBVERSIVE PUPPETS TO EXQUISITE CERAMIC POTS, FROM 29 OCTOBER-15 NOVEMBER COMPREHENSIVE SOLO SHOW AT SLADMORE CONTEMPORARY
2014 marks the thirtieth anniversary of Spitting Image, Roger Law is the big, bearded genius behind the show. The ceramics he makes today, adapting his own ideas to ancient Chinese tradition, are as witty and beautiful as his caricature puppets were rude and ugly.
His work incorporates Australian creatures and plants, lurking as handles, wriggling inside a bowl, or encrusting surfaces. Names alone spellbinding: weedy sea dragons, blue paddle crabs, mudskippers and long necked turtles.
